[.P1 | TOWNSCAPE APPRAISAL & MINI URBAN INTERVENTION]

In Phase 1, students critically explored the urban context through a townscape appraisal and a series of mini urban intervention exercises. This phase aimed to cultivate a nuanced understanding of the site’s character, identity, and sense of place by examining its physical attributes and social dynamics across both macro and micro scales. Through systematic observation, mapping, and theoretical interpretation, students analysed how people perceive, occupy, and interact with the urban environment. These insights subsequently informed the development of a responsive mini urban intervention, enabling students to translate contextual analysis into clear design intentions that contribute to place-making, strengthen community engagement, and enhance the overall quality of the public realm.
