[.A1 | DIAGRAMMING ARCHITECTURAL PRINCIPLES]

group project titled "Diagramming Architectural Principles," where we explored architectural design through the abstraction of 2D and 3D space compositions. Working in a group of 5-6 members, we were assigned to research a key building by a selected architect, such as Studio Saxe or SILAA Architects. Our task involved conducting in-depth background research on the architect and the building, followed by producing a complete set of architectural drawings at a scale of 1:50. These drawings, which included the site plan, floor plans, sections, elevations, and perspective views, were meticulously hand-drawn using black ink pens and shades of grey markers on A3 landscape format.

The project required us to analyze specific aspects of the building, focusing on the main design intentions, contextual factors such as tropical settings and natural ventilation, space planning, circulation and zoning, and structural elements like grid and rhythm. Based on this analysis, we created five analysis diagrams and five diagrammatic models (12 x 12 x 8 cm), all of which were hand-drawn and crafted to visually express the architectural principles at play.

Presentation Boards

The final submission included a set of 6 to 8 boards that showcased our architectural drawings, analysis diagrams, and photographs of the diagrammatic models. We also documented the entire analysis process, from initial thoughts and ideas to the development of models and diagrams. This project not only enhanced my ability to abstract and simplify architectural concepts but also deepened my understanding of the relationship between design intentions and the creation of architectural spaces.
