[.A3 | THE HIDEOUT RETREAT]

For my final project in Architectural Design II, I am tasked with designing a Hideout Retreat located within the National Botanical Garden, Shah Alam. The project builds upon the Nature Observatory Post created in the previous assignment, incorporating resting, working, and recreational areas into a cohesive design that reflects the unique relationship between architecture and its natural environment.
The retreat must accommodate four individuals with similar interests, within a built-up space of 150 square meters, and the design must demonstrate an understanding of architectural principles, materiality, and context. Key objectives include creating a space that harmonizes with the landscape, respects the site context, and offers a memorable spatial experience for users. The final design will be presented through detailed hand-drawn plans, sections, elevations, and development models, emphasizing creativity and craftsmanship

Reflecting on the Architectural Design II projects, I gained a deeper understanding of integrating architectural principles with materiality and user experience. Project 1 emphasized the importance of applying architectural principles to shape meaningful spaces, enhancing my conceptual and operational skills. Project 2 expanded this knowledge by challenging me to design a Nature Observatory Post that harmonizes with its natural environment while meeting functional needs. This project underscored the significance of site-specific design and materiality. Project 3, the Hideout Retreat, further tested these skills by requiring a balance of observation, rest, work, and recreation within a compact 150sqm footprint, all while respecting the site's context. Collectively, these projects have refined my ability to create context-sensitive, functional, and impactful architectural solutions, blending design principles with practical considerations to enhance user experience and environmental harmony.
